The Beaufort Bakery & Café specializes in Artisan and classical breads. Artisan breads use a natural starter, simple ingredients, long fermentation times, and minimal handling, to produce a deep flavored bread highlighting the flavors of the ingredients. There are no chemical additives or dough stabilizers used. In addition, we produce traditional classic breads like Baguettes and Ciabatta. Here are examples of a few of our breads. We are experimenting and developing new breads constantly.
We make our baguettes using the traditional French method. One third of the dough is prefermented for 12-16 hours to develop flavor. Then using 4 simple ingredients; flour, yeast, salt and water, we craft our bread with a perfect balance between the thin crispy crust and a light and chewy center.
The traditional Italian “slipper” bread. We start similar to a baguette with a preferment for 16 hours to develop deep flavor, then we use 5 simple ingredients; flour, yeast, salt, Extra Virgin Olive Oil and water. This bread goes through an intensive mix to develop the gluten, which gives it a very light texture with large interior holes. It is an excellent bread for sopping up sauces or dipping into Olive oil infused with our special dipping seasoning.
A classic Artisan Bread. Flour, salt, and water. Using our natural starter, we blend winter wheat flour and whole wheat flour, water, and salt, and put the dough through a 24 hour process of folding and slow fermentation to develop maximum flavor. It has a slightly tangy profile with a crisp crust and chewy interior.
Similar to our Lowcountry Sourdough, our Rustic Olive Bread contains Greek Country Olives and chopped Fresh Rosemary. The result is a full flavored “fun in your mouth” taste that goes well on any dinner table serving meat. It also pairs well with goat cheese, eggplant dip, or pasta.
This sweet tasting bread incorporates our naturally fermented sourdough as its base. We add shredded carrots, diced onions and flax seed to during the mixing of this dough. The combination of the sourdough and these ingredient’s gives it a sweeter taste that the traditional sourdough. This healthy bread is great for grilled cheese sandwiches.
Rum soaked Raisins, Oatmeal, a touch of Agave for a slight sweetness and a cinnamon swirl in the center make this the ultimate toasting bread for the morning.
A naturally fermented sourdough with 35% Whole Wheat Flour. We soak an assortment of 7 grains overnight before adding to the dough to develop a healthy, nutty flavor. It is a moist, chewy, healthy bread and lasts several days. Great for Sandwiches.
