Ok, so maybe the dog ate my homework…

defeatedI have run out of good excuses and since the dog died in the last blog I probably cannot now say that he ate my homework and that is why we are not open.

It has been another crazy week here in lovely Lady’s Island. We just can’t seem to get our bakery open. The contractor has yet to complete his work and we now find that the air-conditioning is inadequate for the space. It can’t handle the hot air in the building…and that is before we add people. There was a brain trust of very smart people out on Friday to try to figure out what to do, engineers, contractors, air conditioning people…talk about a lot of hot air!! After careful consideration they have put forth a plan to make it right. We do not have a timeframe as of this writing and do not know how invasive this next project will be. The result is that we must wait longer to be open for business.  To say this is frustrating is a real understatement. Did I say the roof still leaks?

Many of you have commiserated and told me that one day I will look back and laugh at this. I only hope I live long enough to do that. Some of you have been angry. We had one lady leave the store the other day muttering “What the hell…” I can assure this nice lady, and all of you more understanding customers,  that these delays are more painful for us than for you.

In the end we must stay strong and carry on…after all, we are talking about bread here, not the national deficit! I could go on about the deficit but my wife has banned me from ever discussing anything political in public again.
